We chose this hotel because it came as a deal with a show we booked at the Salle Albert Rousseau in walking distance. For that it was almost worth it but when we got to the hotel it was immediately obvious why it had 3.4 stars on Google (review score at the time of writing this). The room was plain and the bathroom was tiny. The bathtub had a hair on it. The mini fridge kept gurgling. The next morning after we showered the faucet kept dripping, I was glad we didn't shower before sleep. The bed headboard is fabric which made me nervous to put my head nearby. The walls are super thin and we could hear everyone walking and talking in the hallway at all hours. Unfortunately for us, there was a kid's hockey tournament in town and the kids kept running from room to room to hang out together. When we mentioned it at reception they just shrugged and pointed out it was a tournament. The pool is pretty small which makes it a bit awkward when it's full of kids, but that aside, the rooms are at the 4th floor which has a balcony to overlook the pool, it's absolutely stiffling up there, super hot and humid, the ceiling is full of brown mold, it was bad. The restaurant associated with the hotel is a Boston Pizza, so when I asked for fresh fruit they told me I could try there and the front desk even said to me "it's too bad I just threw out the apple in my lunchbox." There's a lot of fast food options in the area but not much for activities since it's a university area. We ended up canceling our second night and opted for a better hotel in the downtown Old Québec area which immediately told us to report any noise activity as it would not be tolerated which ended up not being necessary since the rooms are better insulated for sound from the get go. When we left Hôtel Universel the next day, there was actual vomit on the path to the entrance. Definitely will not be returning to this hotel and will be hesitant to try any other Hotel Universel in the future.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a really great experience. I didn’t have high expectations after reading some of the reviews, but the hotel actually exceeded ours. The room was clean and surprisingly spacious, with more than enough towels provided, which we appreciated. Although we didn’t get the chance to spend time at the pool area, it looked nice and well maintained. Overall, a comfortable and pleasant stay, and I would definitely consider staying here again.

Room was spacious for a family of 4, we had a nice kitchenette with a dining area with a table, sink, fridge, toaster oven and microwave, plates and utensils. Service was friendly, quick check in/out. Atmosphere was great, lovely indoor resort with a medium/large sized pool, hot tub, saunas and a small cold pool. Loved that boston pizza was attached to the hotel, made it easy to grab quick dinners. Lots of shopping around, right across from the Université Laval. The only thing was the walls throughout the room were a bit dirty.

Rooms are good for the price. Cable TV works great! Beautiful pool area, adult only hours are not enforced at all. Neither are the 15 people max. Wouldn’t book again for a “hotel & spa experience”, probably quieter pool at the Best Western unfortunately.
